Passpoint, also called Hotspot 2.0, is a Wi‑Fi Alliance standard that lets a phone discover and authenticate to a Wi‑Fi network automatically using its SIM, with no captive portal and no password. That automatic, SIM-based handoff is what lets carrier traffic move onto your Wi‑Fi, so guests just get coverage the moment they walk in.
Major carriers work with LongFi to serve their subscribers indoors. LongFi Connect carries that traffic securely on the venue's existing Wi‑Fi, on its own isolated lane, and systems already running on the network stay untouched.
No. Eligible phones connect automatically through Passpoint. There is no app, no portal, and no password for the guest to deal with. Coverage just works.

Compatible environments run enterprise-grade Wi‑Fi infrastructure that supports Passpoint, WPA2 or WPA3-Enterprise with 802.1X and RADIUS, and RadSec or an approved alternate RadSec architecture. Platforms such as Meraki, Aruba, UniFi, Ruckus, Cisco, Juniper Mist, Omada, and other Passpoint-capable systems are commonly compatible.
Compatibility is reviewed during site qualification, based on the Wi‑Fi platform, controller architecture, firmware, segmentation model, authentication support, and implementation constraints. Share your platform and we will confirm fit.
There are approved alternate RadSec architectures. If gear does not natively support RadSec, a small always-on local host with a static IP can run a RadSec proxy, or LongFi can assist with a low-power mini PC for that purpose. Some vendors offer native RadSec with mutual certificate management.
Carriers expect voice-grade connectivity: low latency, minimal jitter, and very low packet loss. A low-latency wired connection is strongly recommended. Low-latency satellite such as Starlink can work; high-latency satellite is not voice-grade and traffic may be rejected by the carriers.
In many cases the Passpoint lane uses a small fraction of available bandwidth, and it runs on spare capacity. You can apply a bandwidth cap to protect business-critical traffic, for example reserving most of the link for internal use, and adjust as observed usage grows.

The LongFi Connect carrier offload runs on its own isolated lane, separated from your POS, cameras, staff devices, internal office networks, servers, and business-critical systems using firewall rules, ACLs, and client isolation. The LongFi Connect lane sits to the right of your internal networks, not inside them. Systems already running on that network stay untouched, and the existing security posture and standards stay in place.
Passpoint offers much stronger security than open or captive-portal guest Wi‑Fi. Phones authenticate by SIM, traffic is encrypted with WPA2 or WPA3 and EAP-TLS, and voice and text are secured by IPSec tunnels directly from the device to the carrier network.
No. The carrier traffic is encrypted and isolated. The venue has no visibility into the subscriber traffic, which also means no liability for it. Your team manages and monitors the network segment to your own security requirements.
No open inbound ports are required. The RadSec port needs to be allowed outbound to the internet. A next-generation firewall with current threat signatures and IDS/IPS is recommended, with optional content filtering.
The architecture is built to satisfy I.T. and security expectations: enterprise authentication, encrypted transport, strict segmentation, and client isolation. LongFi engineers can answer detailed segmentation and liability questions in writing and bring the technical team in for sophisticated I.T. shops.

LongFi Connect requires Wi‑Fi infrastructure that supports Passpoint or Hotspot 2.0, WPA2-Enterprise or WPA3-Enterprise, 802.1X, RADIUS, and RadSec or an approved alternate RadSec architecture. Carrier offload should run on a dedicated Guest or Passpoint VLAN, or a properly isolated existing guest VLAN.
Use a Guest or Passpoint VLAN isolated from internal VLANs with firewall rules and ACLs. The lane should allow clients to reach the internet while denying communication to other users, devices, and subnets through client isolation. A larger DHCP pool with a short lease time accommodates the high number of transient devices.
You can use an existing guest VLAN, subnet, and DHCP scope, though a dedicated VLAN is strongly recommended for security, capacity, and monitoring, and for setting distinct rate limits and policies. Keeping a separate normal guest VLAN for non-cellular devices like laptops and tablets is also common.
No open inbound ports are required. The RadSec port must be allowed outbound. A next-generation firewall with updated threat signatures and IDS/IPS is recommended, with optional content filtering. Avoid double NAT, which can break the encapsulation that Wi‑Fi Calling depends on.
Apply per-SSID and per-client rate limits, and plan client limits per access point. Expect many more transient users than a normal guest network, since devices join automatically, so each consumes an IP and a syslog entry. Consider external logging so log retention is not exhausted quickly.
Enable 802.11r secure fast roaming, with 802.11k and 802.11v optional depending on legacy clients. Avoid captive portals, grace periods, and walled gardens on the Passpoint SSID, since devices need low-latency access to DNS and RadSec. WPA3 with Protected Management Frames is required for 6 GHz.
