LongFi Connect keeps members connected inside the Y.

LongFi Connect at the YMCA of Greater Birmingham, live since 2025.

Gymnasiums, fitness floors, studios and locker rooms are built from concrete block, tile and structural steel, which is exactly what stops outdoor cell signal at the door. Members lost service in the rooms where they spend the most time. With LongFi Connect, coverage now reaches through the building.

Carrier revenue generated for the Y so far
We now have LongFi Connect running at two branches, and it was simple to set up on the equipment we already run. Our members get seamless mobile connectivity inside the building, and the revenue it generates goes straight back into our branches. We are looking forward to rolling it out at our other locations.

The Challenge

Buildings designed for activity, not for cell signal.

Carriers do not build indoor infrastructure for community nonprofits, and a distributed antenna system runs well into six figures for a building this size. That leaves members working around the gaps on their own.

Saturday in the gymnasium

Cell signal struggles to reach inside the gym. Parents spend Saturdays at youth sports events, unable to get a call or text through.

The basics stop working

Members can struggle to place calls, send texts, and use app-based workouts from inside the building.

Guest Wi-Fi falls short

Guest Wi-Fi helps, but it is not a complete solution, since it adds friction for members to find it and join it manually.

The Solution

LongFi Connect improves indoor cell connectivity using the Y's excess Wi-Fi capacity.

It runs as a configuration on the business-grade Wi-Fi already in the building, so member phones connect on their own and keep working when the floor is full.

  • Automatic for members. Phones connect on their own, with no app, no password, and no portal.
  • Calls and texts, not just data. Carrier traffic is carried indoors across the Wi-Fi already in the building, so voice and SMS work like they would outside.
  • Secure by design. Member traffic is authenticated and encrypted, and kept separate from the Y's own systems.
  • No cost to the Y. Activation takes minimal I.T. time and runs quietly alongside operations.

What Changed In The Building

The moments members care about now happen inside.

A parent films a child's basketball game from the bleachers at the YMCA gymnasium
The stands stay connected

Parents watching youth sports take calls, answer texts, and send video of the game from the bleachers.

The basics work again

Calls, texts and app-based workouts go through from anywhere in the building, not just near the lobby.

A parent takes a call during childcare pickup at the YMCA
Connected without the steps

Phones connect on their own as members walk in, with no network to hunt for and no portal to sign into.

The Results

Connectivity that reaches through the building.

70%+
of U.S. mobile subscribers are on carriers supported by LongFi Connect, so the majority of members see improved indoor service automatically.
  • Calls, texts and connected workouts hold up in the rooms members actually use.
  • Parents in the gymnasium and program spaces stay reachable by school, work and family.
  • Coverage holds during 24-hour access hours, when the building is quietest.
  • The fix runs on the Y's existing network, with no disruption and no cost to the association.
For Wellness Centers

Bring reliable indoor connectivity to the rooms across your facility.

LongFi Connect works best in high-traffic buildings where the construction itself gets in the way of indoor cell service. A short conversation is enough to tell.

Works with business-grade Wi-Fi and supports major mobile carriers.
